I just got my new Florida novelty card in the mail and wanted to share a quick update on how it looks. Since Florida is such a huge destination, bouncers there are usually pretty sharp, so the UV pattern has to be perfect. I put this one under a blacklight as soon as I opened the package. The state seal and the overlapping wavy lines looked really crisp, not like the blurry mess you see on cheap cards.
I took it out to a busy spot in Miami last weekend to see if it would actually scan. The bouncer did a quick tilt check to look at the holograms and then used a standard handheld scanner. It buzzed green immediately. I was a bit nervous because Florida recently updated some of the encoded data in their 2D barcodes, but this vendor seems to have the latest software updates. The card itself feels rigid and has that metallic 'ping' sound when you drop it on a table, which is a good sign it's real polycarbonate and not just PVC.
If you're looking for a Florida card, make sure you don't settle for anything that doesn't have multi-colored UV. A lot of the lower-end vendors only use one color for the UV, which is a dead giveaway to any experienced doorman. This batch really impressed me with the level of detail in the background printing too. No bleeding edges or fuzzy text. Definitely one of the better ones I've owned.
