How to spot a fake ID

A lot of people come here asking for the best vendors, but I think it's just as important to know how to spot a fake id yourself so you know what you're buying. I've seen some absolute garbage being sold for 00+ and it's a total rip-off. The first thing you should always look at is the edge of the card. Real IDs are cut with industrial machinery, so the edges are perfectly smooth and rounded. If you see any sandwich layers where the plastic is splitting, or if the edges feel rough like they were cut with a hobby knife, it's a fake. Another thing is the drop test. Drop the card on a hard table. A real polycarbonate ID has a very high-pitched ping sound, almost like a piece of ceramic. If it sounds like a dull thud, it's probably cheap PVC. I also recommend checking the microprint. Most modern IDs have tiny text hidden in the background patterns. On a good novelty card, you should be able to see actual letters with a magnifying glass. On a bad one, it just looks like a fuzzy line. Also, look at the signature. It shouldn't just be printed on top; it should look like it was written with a pen, sometimes slightly indented or raised depending on the state. Bouncers are getting smarter, so we have to be smarter too. Don't just trust a vendor's website photos they always use the best ones. Ask for vouch photos from recent customers on the forum. If the UV patterns don't match the real ones exactly, don't even bother taking it out. It's better to lose some money on a bad order than to get in trouble with the law because you used a low-quality card.

I'd add that checking the expiration date against the issue date is important too. Some lazy vendors use a standard 5 years for every state, even if that state only issues for 4 or 8 years. Bouncers know those small details by heart if they're experienced.

The ping test is a classic! I remember the first time I heard a real ID drop, I was shocked at how metallic it sounded. Most people don't realize that different states use different materials. A Texas ID feels way different than a Florida one. Great guide for the newbies here.
