Why some fake IDs fail the bend test

We always talk about the bend test, but do you know why it matters? Real IDs from states like New York or California are made of layers of polycarbonate that are fused together. If you bend a real one, it snaps back into place without any damage. A cheap PVC novelty card will leave a permanent white line or a crease.

Bouncers use this because it is a fast way to check the material quality without using a scanner. If your card fails the bend test, it doesn't matter how good the printing is—it is a fake. Always ask your vendor what material they use. If they say 'Teslin with a thick laminate,' it might work for some states, but for polycarbonate states, it is a risk.
