One thing that often catches people off guard with the Texas novelty id cards is the color-shifting OVI on the front. On the real card, there's a large state shape that changes from gold to green. Most fakes use a simple iridescent ink that just looks silver or rainbow. You need actual Optically Variable Ink.
I suggest tilting your card under a desk lamp as soon as you get it. If the color shift isn't distinct, it won't pass at a high-end bar. Texas bouncers love to do the 'tilt check' while they're talking to you just to see if the ink reacts. Also, check the UV on the back; it should show multiple state seals in a specific pattern.
