In this part of my guide on how to spot a fake id, let's talk about lamination. Real IDs are not just a piece of paper sandwiched between two pieces of plastic. They are made of multiple layers of polycarbonate that are fused together under high heat. If you can peel the corners of your card with your fingernail, it is a 100% fake.

A real ID will never peel. Also, look for bubbles or 'haze' in the plastic. If the card looks cloudy, it means the lamination process was not done correctly. Bouncers will often rub the card between their thumb and forefinger to feel for any separation of the layers. If it feels thick or 'soft,' they'll know it's a novelty card.
