How to spot a fake id by the signature thickness

In this part of my how to spot a fake id guide, let's talk about signatures. Real signatures on IDs are often printed with a very fine laser, giving them a sharp, thin appearance. Many novelty cards use standard inkjet or thermal printers that produce a much thicker, fuzzier line for the signature.

If the signature looks like it was drawn with a thick Sharpie, it's a huge red flag. A real signature should look like it was written with a fine-point pen. Bouncers will often compare the signature on the ID to the one you provide on a credit card or a receipt. If the thicknesses don't match, they'll start asking questions. It's a subtle detail, but an important one.
