Novelty id cards: Why you need a backup story

Having a high-quality novelty id card is only half the battle. You also need a solid backup story in case you're questioned. Bouncers will often ask you things like 'What's your zip code?' or 'What's your zodiac sign?' to see if you trip up. If you have to think about it for more than a second, they'll know you're lying.

I suggest memorizing all the info on your card as soon as it arrives. Practice saying it out loud while you're in the shower or driving. Also, have a reason why you're in town—maybe you're visiting family or here for a concert. The more confident and natural you sound, the less likely they are to scrutinize your ID. It's all about the performance!
